Abstract: This microstudy aimed to investigate the adoption of drip irrigation to enhance smart farming technology in Lira city. A descriptive design was employed targeting one farm and data was collected using a transect walk within the site coupled with observations and in-depth personal interviews. All data was qualitative and it was analysed using thematic analysis. The outcomes suggest that the drip irrigation technology and the amount of resources invested have the potential to contribute to smart farming technologies in the city and beyond nonetheless, low adaptation may delay the success of this goal. The outcomes of this study may be used as basis for the city authorities and other neighbouring districts to scale out this technology given that climatic conditions have become very unreliable yet demand for food at both household level and community level is rising. This paper makes a contribution to the growing body of knowledge y highlighting a key prospect for smart farming that can enhance sustainable farming towards food secure households and communities.

Abstract: This study aimed to determine how adoption of aquaculture can translate into smart farming among urban farmers in Lira city. A descriptive study design was adopted targeting only one fish farm in the city and data was collected using interviews and observations were used as well as reviews of secondary data which were used at the introductory party of this work. Questions were asked to the farm manager and the director who later joined us during the questions and answers session; and analysed thematically. The findings show that the three aspects of aquaculture, namely; the hatchery where eggs are extracted and hatched, water production used to sustain the pond and the fish inside, and the pond security have a greater potential of enhancing smart farming among urban farmers in Lira city and the country as a whole. Nevertheless, adoption of aquaculture is yet to be embraced by a good number of urban farmers, something likely to derail the country from attaining adequate nutrients as well as tapping into both local and regional fish markets. The outcomes of this study may be used by urban authorities and the line ministry to develop guidelines for engaging smallholder urban farmers more aggressively into the enterprise as well as conserving the environment. This paper contributes to the growing both of knowledge by underscoring one of the affordable smart farming technologies that can be adopted create self-employment, better nutrition and food security in the region.

Abstract: Effective human resource business processes are instrumental in helping achieve organizational objectives and enhance productivity. Firm performance is positively impacted by the presence of human resource practices which tend to create a significant contribution on organizational competencies, and this in turn becomes a great boost further enhancing innovativeness. To compete effectively, organizations must constantly improve their performance by designing human resource management processes to diagnose a firm’s strategic human resource needs. The study sought to determine the influence of human resource business processes (selective resourcing, teams and decentralization, extensive training, sharing of information, incentives) on the performance of Kenya’s manufacturing sector. The study adopted a cross sectional survey research design and the target population was the manufacturing sector in Kenya. Data was collected using questionnaires and interviews and analyzed using SPSS and Microsoft Excel. Inferential data analysis was carried out by the use of factor analysis, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. The findings indicated that performance was positively influenced by selective resourcing, extensive training, sharing information and incentives. Correlation analysis results revealed that the use of teams and decentralization had a strong and positive association with performance. Based on the results of this study, it could, therefore, be concluded that human resource business processes significantly influenced performance of the manufacturing sector in Kenya. The study recommends that organizations should focus on the use of human resource business processes as its involvement is necessary to ensure that human resources support its mission.

Title: Influence of Human Resource Business Processes on the Performance of Kenya’s Manufacturing Sector

Abstract: This study determined the competencies of cooperating teachers and the school climate in the perspectives of the pre-service teachers of Iloilo Science and University- Miagao Campus, Miagao, Iloilo. Furthermore, a significant difference in the level of cooperating teachers’ competencies in the areas of personal skills, Technology management skills and instructional competence was found out. As output of the study, a feedback mechanism was formulated. This was participated by 199 randomly chosen pre-service teachers assigned in the varied schools in the First District of Iloilo. A validated researcher –made evaluation form was utilized in obtaining the data. Mean and SD were used in the descriptive analysis while the Mann Whitney U was used to obtain the inferential data. Findings of the study revealed that the cooperating teachers’ level of competency when taken as a whole and in areas such as personal skills, management skills and instructional competence was  outstanding and the school climate was excellent. Notably, the strong points of the cooperating teachers revolved into the following themes namely: Having effective communication,  being collegial, being flexible to difference, being organized and  being understanding while lacking pedagogical support and technology expertise, low voice are among  their weak points. There was no significant difference noted in the level of cooperating teachers’ competencies in the areas of personal skills, management skills and instructional competence as perceived by the pre-service teachers when categorized as to elementary and secondary school. The qualitative part of the study made use of the thematic analysis. It is recommended that ISAT U key officials, Student Teaching Division and Dep Ed may continually formulate effective policies and strategies to maintain the standard of education, especially as regards teaching internship, thereby, producing quality teacher education graduates and prospective teachers.

Abstract: The evaluation of any programme, using the appropriate model is likely to foster a wealth of information that could possibly provide policy-programme direction, and at the same time, strengthen research-policy interface. The aim of this paper is to ascertain the extent to which the Contraceptive Logistics Management Information System (CLMIS) as a programme in Jamaica’s primary care public health sector, bears relevance, coherence, effectiveness, efficiency, impact and sustainability. These factors are representative of the aforementioned six principles governing the Organization for Economic Cooperation and development-Development Assistance Committee Model (OECD-DAC). A qualitative approach was taken in obtaining the necessary information from the health care professionals across the fourteen (14) parishes of Jamaica. This approach was used owing to its naturalistic inquiry for clear interpretation. The two-page, 10-item instrument, which was used to collect the information, abided within the ambit of the aforementioned principles of the Evaluation Model, and the said information was recorded by parish. The analysis was done via theme triangulation according to each of the six evaluation principles/criteria. The unit of analysis was 72 health care providers. Majority of the participants responded to each question within the affirmative, but with explained limitations in some instances, as outlined in the results of this paper. The evaluation evidenced that CLMIS as a programme, for the most part, has been deemed favourable to four out of the six principles governing the OECD-DAC Model.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the link between idealised consideration and the performance of healthcare workers in mid-north Uganda. Cross sectional design was adopted targeting 220 middle-level healthcare workers and 30 health facility in-charge. The genuine sample size involved 136 middle-level healthcare workers and 28 health facility in-charges. Data were gathered by means of a self-administered questionnaire using quantitative methods to assess the link between idealised consideration and the performance of healthcare workers in Lira district. Data were analysed by means of both descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The results reveal that idealised consideration employed by health facility in-charges in health centres is very relevant to the performance of healthcare workers leading to enhanced efficiency and effectiveness as well as timeliness. Nonetheless, the slow fusion of idealised consideration within the general organisational structure ruined reasonable effectiveness and timeliness for health service delivery. The outcomes of this study can be act as beneficial contribution for the Ugandan healthcare policymakers and practitioners in evolving a parameter on incorporation of attributes of idealised consideration in the performance of employee standards for better efficiency and effectiveness, timeliness and productivity. This study makes an input to the budding body of knowledge by underlining prospects for idealised consideration which can generate proactive management towards the performance of employees in Uganda.

Abstract: This paper analyses the effect of procurement methods on performance of state corporations in Kenya. The study also assesses the moderating effect of public procurement disposal act enforcement on the relationship between procurement methods and performance of state corporations. The study employed descriptive research design to help in identifying characteristics, frequencies and trends of the study population. This study was anchored on positivist Philosophy. The target population of this study included all 187 registered state corporations in Kenya. The study used a census where all the 187 state corporations were surveyed. To identify the unit of observation, the study purposively picked the head of finance and the head of procurement function in all 187 state corporations in Kenya. This formed 374 respondents. Primary data was the main data for the study which was collected using questionnaires. The collected data was analyzed with the aid of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 26. Descriptive statistics was used to summarize and organize characteristics of a data set collected which was presented in form of means, modes and standard deviations. Then inferential statistics through a regression model was used to test the research hypotheses. The study established that procurement methods had a significantly influence on the performance of state corporations in Kenya. The study recommended that the management of the state corporations ought to ensure compliance with all sections of PPAD Act, of 2015 and public procurement regulations so as to improve their performance.

Abstract: Green leafy vegetables together with other components of the plant world are the major source of some phytochemicals (secondary metabolites) that are used by the pharmaceutical and food industries. The focus of this study was to conduct the phytochemical analysis and mineral/elemental composition of Bitter Leaf and Sweet Bitterleaf in Bali as probable justification of their nutritional and medicinal applications. The plant were identified using pertinent taxonomic literature by Garjila (2016). Standard procedures by Trease and Evans (2009), Association of Official Analytical Chemist, Official method of Analysis (AOAC, 2003), Pearson (1976), Lucas and Markakes (1975) and Harbone (1973) were used to analyse the sample for phytochemical compositions. The result of the study shows that Bitter leaf comprise of 13.86 % alkaloid, 18.00 % flavonoid, 6.00 % saponin, 2.34 mg/g oxalate and 16.73 % phytate. Sweet Bitterleaf have 8.00 % alkaloid, 9.43 % flavonoid, 5.77 % saponin, 3.60 mg/g oxalate, 40.67 % phytate. In conclusion, the two (2) vegetables: Bitter Leaf (Vernonia amygdalina Delile) and Sweet Bitterleaf (Vernonia hymenolepis) contain varied and appreciable amount of phytochemical constituents (alkaloid, tannins, flavonoids, saponins and protein). Thus, the vegetables may be use as phytochemical supplements and also useful in the management of various ailment and disorders in human.
