Abstract: The stiff competition for customers and increase in buyers awareness has made buyers want to pay for their recognizable and constructive brand. Therefore, a strong brand awareness has become the most competitive advantage in attracting and retaining customers. Brand awareness include advertising, personal selling, sale promotion and public relation. This study sought to determine the effect of brand awareness on customer retention in Airtel mobile company in Kenya. The aspect of brand awareness that were examined include brand visibility and promotion tools on customer retention in Airtel Kenya mobile company. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. Questionnaires were used to collect the data where 334 respondents completely filled them. Descriptive and content analysis techniques were used to analyze the data. The study revealed that Airtel mobile company has promoted its brand by measures such as quick and efficient services. The company utilises a number of promotional mix to build a strong brand awareness among its customers. The most used promotional tools include sale promotion, advertisement in television and improvement of tarriff rate. The study further revealed that Airtel Kenya has benefited from promoting its brand that has become popular among potential customers The study recommend that Airtel mobile company should intensify its promotional tool strategies such as being involved in charitable activities so that customers can see that the company caters for their welfare rather than making profit only.

Abstract: Travel & Tourism is a developing sector in Bangladesh and it is very imperative to ensure sustainable development goal of Bangladesh and uphold GDP @ 7 %, where Total Travel & Tourism’s contribution share near about 4.7 % of total GDP. It will be a challenging task for Bangladesh to maintain GDP growth more than 7% in near future but tourism sector has the potentiality to support GDP growth besides RMG sector. Bangladesh is a land of river & beauty which has world longest sea beach with UNESCO world heritage Sundarbans. Through the paper we observe the causality between Travel & Tourism’s contribution to GDP growth & employment in Bangladesh by formulating an econometrics model. All analyses have been conducted by vector error correction model and Engle & Ganger test of causality with the yearly data on employment in tourism sector, visitor export, and capital investment in tourism sector over the period of 1990 to 2015. Through the analyses we detect that travel and tourism’s variables together have long-run significant relationship with GDP growth and employment creation. Our forecast that in future Bangladesh GDP growth and employment growth in tourism will be strengthened through capital investment and visitor export and in coming years Bangladesh GDP growth will be near to 7% where as in 2016 Bangladesh GDP growth rate was 6.9 % and employment generation growth in tourism sector is also forecasted to be near to 10%.

Abstract: The purpose of the study was to assess the effect of talent management practices on employee performance among Commercial Based State Corporations in Kenya. This study focused on Purely Commercial State Corporation and Strategic State Corporations. The specific objectives addressed were; determining the effect of talent development, career development and Work-life balance on employee performance among Commercial State Corporations in Kenya. Stratified random sampling was used to select 55 Purely Commercial State Corporations and Strategic Commercial State Corporations. From the population of 55 parastatals, 48 parastatals were selected using Miller and Brewer’s (2003) sampling technique. From the selected parastatals a total of 48 respondents were purposively selected. Quantitative data was collected using questionnaires. To establish the effect of talent management practices on employee performance, multiple regressions was computed. Hypotheses of the study were tested using ANOVA. Pilot study was conducted on 10% of the study sample. The results were presented descriptively using frequency tables and pie charts. The findings of the study showed that talent development had a positive significant effect on the performance of employees among Commercial Based State Corporations in Kenya, Career development had a positive significant effect on the performance of employees among Commercial Based State Corporations in Kenya and Work-life balance had a positive significant effect on the performance of employees among Commercial Based State Corporations in Kenya. Based on the findings of the study, the researcher recommended that organizations should have in-house talent management programs which are aligned with the organizational goals to ensure maximum employee productivity among others.

Abstract: The banking system plays a very important role in the economic life of a country. The health of the economy is closely related to the soundness of its banking system. Corporate governance also enhances the long term shareholder value by the process of accountability of managers and by enhances the firm’s performance. It also eliminate the conflict of ownership and control by separately defines the interest of shareholders and managers. India at present cannot ignore the importance of Corporate Governance. This paper discusses the corporate governance as an internal mechanism in banks, its necessity in the banking sector, the history of corporate governance in the world as well as India, best practices of corporate banking incorporated in India and measures taken by various banks to implement them and the recent developments in this area in the banking sector.

Abstract: Training policies are expressions of the training philosophy of the organization. Training policy shows the proportion of turn over that should be allocated to training. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of training policies on employee performance in the Postal Corporation of Kenya. The study adopted a survey research design. The whole population of 50 employees was taken as respondents. A questionnaire was used to collect data from the respondents. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics which gave frequencies and percentages. Correlation was used to generate results. The study found out that training policy greatly improved employee performance. Achievement of individual targets and overall low employee turnover can be attributed to the presence of an effective training policy. The study concluded that appropriate training policies had been established. The study recommended that the organization should formulate clear staff training policies and ensure that the policies are well communicated.

Abstract: The study assessed the effectiveness of internal control system in safeguarding assets against fraud in Agricultural Development Bank Ghana Limited (ADB). The study specifically highlighted the major causes of fraud; determined the extent of implementation of internal control systems; assessed the effectiveness of internal control system on fraud detection and prevention; and ascertained the effect of fraud on the bank in terms of its profitability, liquidity and operational efficiency. A structured questionnaire was used as a primary data collection instrument to select employees of ADB by purposive and convenient means. Items of the questionnaire were measured on the ranking scale. 37 employees from five branches of the bank were sampled. Data analysis was done using descriptive statistics. The study found that employees of the bank perceived that; poor internal control system, presence of unqualified staff, inadequate staffing, poor record-keeping practices, and inadequate training and re-training of staff among others were the main causes of fraud. All aspects of internal control system were strongly implemented and practiced by the bank. Internal control system was effective in controlling fraud in the bank in various forms. Fraud had negative and insignificant effect on the performance of the bank. The study recommends the continuous practice of the internal control system to ensure that fraud of any form is reduced to the barest minimum.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of suppler selection ethics on the procurement performance of state corporations in Kenya. Specifically, it sought to establish how ethical supplier evaluation and supplier ethical assessment affects the procurement performance of Kenyan state corporations. The study adopted a mixed research approach which was both qualitative and quantitative using a descriptive research design. The population of the study was all the 187 procurement managers of the Kenyan state corporations. Data was collected using a self-administered questionnaire which was piloted for validity and reliability. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used for data analysis. The findings of the study revealed that supplier selections ethics had a positive significant effect on procurement performance. It was concluded that all the dimensions of supplier selection ethics are key influencers of procurement performance among the state corporations in Kenya. The study recommended that the Kenyan state corporations should ensure that the selection of suppliers is done ethically so as to optimize procurement performance.

Abstract: The main issue faced by all tax authorities is that it has never been easy to persuade all taxpayers to comply with the regulations of a tax system. Real estate sector is one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy in Kenya yet taxes collected from this sector have continually been on decline for the last five years. The study specifically sought to determine the effect of tax compliance cost, tax education and knowledge, fines and penalties and perceived opportunity for tax evasion on tax compliance in the Real Estate sector. The study was be guided by Theory of Planned Behavior. A sample size of 80 was drawn from the target population of 800 real estate investors.  The study employed qualitative and quantitative form of data collection. Data was collected using structured questionnaire, coded, keyed and analyzed quantitatively using both descriptive and inferential statistics. The study finding showed that compliance cost has the negative effect on level of tax compliance. However, tax knowledge and education has positive effect on level of tax compliance among real estate investors. Similarly, fines/penalties have positive effect on level of tax compliances, while perceived opportunity for tax evasion has negative effect. The study provides some preliminary evidence that imposing fines/penalties and provision of tax knowledge and education among real estate investors improved tax compliance. Conversely, high compliances cost and high opportunity for tax evasion reduced tax compliance among real estate investors. Thus, tax compliance cost should be in a way that does not encourage taxpayers to evade tax. There should be stiff enforcement of fines and penalties to deter tax evasion. Additionally, tax authorities should simplify processes involved in filling of returns and payment of taxes.

Abstract: The main objective of the study was to determine the influence of earnings on capital structure of private manufacturing firms in Kenya The measure of earnings for this research is earnings before tax. Ascertaining and attaining an optimal capital structure for many firms is not an easy task.  In Kenya many manufacturing firms are struggling to operate while others have been compelled to shut down. This study used descriptive survey design on a population of 853 firms as per KAM members’ directory of 2015. Using simple random sampling a sample of 208 CFOs of private manufacturing firms were selected from a target population of 455 CFOs of firms situated in Nairobi and its surrounding areas. The researcher collected primary data using self-administered questionnaire to obtain financial measures from the chief finance officers (CFOs) of these firms and secondary data was collected through a data survey sheet and document review form. Data was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22. Descriptive and inferential statistics were employed. Under descriptive statistics percentages of responses and means of items was computed. In quantitative analysis Karl Pearson’s correlation, multiple linear regression, ANOVA and E -Views were used.  The study concluded that high earnings cause increase in debt. In addition, firms raise capital first from earnings then debt. Most firms also prefer internal finance first before considering external finance.

Abstract: Recently, numerously development is occurred in the banking sector of Bangladesh especially in commercial private banking sector. By this time, this sector has achieved to draw the attention among the new generations as well as creating much interest among them for joining in the banking world. The proper practices of HRM can ensure the future development and goodwill of this sector. But, unfortunately; the present and upcoming employees of this sector are not much satisfied on the implementation of HRM over it. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of HRM practices on perception of the employees of this sector. Specifically, the study has examined HRM practices that are under the control and responsibilities of employees and managers.  It was used to incorporate responses to a self-administered survey has completed and analyzed by two levels of participants and include interviews with employees and managers. The survey instrument was developed to capture questions specific to HRM practices directly in control of employees. The result of this research was found and indicated that there is a positive relationship between HRM practices and job satisfaction over private banking sector in Bangladesh. It was performed some statistical parameters to understand the trends of satisfaction level in this sector. There are not sufficient numbers of studies are available in this sector of the country. So, the findings of this research can play an important rule to indicate the future research works over this sector in Bangladesh.

Abstract: Informal sector becomes the influential economic activities in Bangladesh in considering the contribution to the GDP and labor market over decades. Research show that 87.71% of the workers in Bangladesh are under informal employment. The highest concentration of informal workers is found in the rural areas (92%). Workers engaged in informal employment are mostly in agriculture; hunting and forestry; wholesale and retail trade; manufacturing; and transport, storage, and communications sectors. Women (91.3%) are most likely to be engaged in informal employment than men (86.6%); and women are generally unpaid family workers and in the private household sector. Workers under formal employment are paid better than those under informal arrangements. For each sector, wage differentials between formal and informal workers are significant. Informal workers are found to have significantly less benefits than those with formal employment, except for free meals and free lodging. In particular, self-employed and unpaid workers comprise a little over 20 million of informal workers, although less than 2 million of them enjoy benefits.

The purpose of this paper is to find out the problems of Informal Sector in Bangladesh and to identify the future aspect of Informal sector for the economic growth of the country.

Abstract: Although many organizations have a performance appraisal system in past, it has been estimated that,   less than 20% of all performance appraisals are effective. It is well recognized that no matter what other resources the organization has, the work of the organization is planned and done by people. Therefore, an organization that does performance management well gains a competitive advantage. In this research shown that performance appraisal have three basic functions: reward, develop, and promote. There are four requirements for an effective performance appraisal system: relevance, sensitivity, reliability, and acceptability. This paper focuses on the awareness, especially amongst those working in the corporate sector, regarding the requirements for an effective performance appraisal system, its functions and benefits and the new trends in the performance appraisal system.
