Abstract: The main aim to make such a mechanical oriented project is to reduce the scrap volume and use it for recycle purpose properly. Now a days there is widely usage of cans have been done in hotels and canteen and for their storage large volume of space is required .this research paper include design and structure analysis of can crusher.                                    

There are so many researchers who have done work on design and analysis, but still there are so many areas of scope regarding this design and analysis. Microcontroller makes up the backbone for this project. This project involves processes like design, fabrication and assembling procedures. Even though there are many types of the can crusher machine in the market, the completion of the new model provides a more practical usage than previous one.

Abstract: Direction upcoming are one of the most important reason of dismemberment of rotation machines. Thus the detection and diagnosis of mechanical faults in bearings is very fateful for the desired operation. Any industry seeks for an efficient predictive maintenance techniques in order to optimize the management of resources and improve the economy of the plant by reducing unnecessary costs and increasing the level of safety. This study is centred around use of predictive maintenance techniques for the determination of faulty and healthy bearing on different positions. An apparatus consisting a test bench which has a motor and a shaft attached along with two different type of bearing like faulty bearing and healthy bearing. The vibration reaction are obtained and investigated for different positions of bearing. The particular imperfections are considered as that is non driven end and driven end of the bearing. After performing the experiment, comparison will be done between the experimental data which are the  input for the omnitrend software. The result shows that when we compare all the condition than we will use as a automated diagnosis of bearing. It is also observed that severe vibration occur under the faulty bearing and when the speed is increases then all the defective bearings stop to rotate.

Abstract: The SUPRA SAEINDIA STUDENT FORMULA competitions challenge teams of university undergraduate and graduate students to conceive, design, fabricate, develop and compete with small, formula style, vehicles. The purpose of this paper is to present the steps to follow in order to design honeycomb sandwich structure impact attenuators. Impact attenuator is a deformable, energy absorbing structure located at the front of the vehicle whose sole purpose is to absorb the kinetic energy of the race car and limit the deceleration acting on the human body. Also this paper discusses the crash analysis of the designed attenuator in order to determine the safety of the design.  The analysis is done using LS-DYNA whereas the design is carried out using theoretical calculations. Initial requirements were set in accordance with the Supra SAEINDIA Student Formula 2012 rules and they were satisfied with the final configuration crash analysis.

Abstract:  In India, Agriculture is the backbone. In country like India, groundnut is grown on a small scale by farmer. The major problem in groundnut production in country like India is the lack of groundnut processing machines available to farmers. In the beginning the peanuts were separated from its shells by the workers. The output from this method was very less and could not satisfy the market demand as it was very time consuming process. A research-work for design, fabricate, and performance evaluation of a groundnut decorticator consisting of feed hopper with a flow rate control device, shelling unit, separating unit and power system. This paper describes about the design and fabrication of various components of groundnut decorticator. Overall, this machine involves processes like design, fabrication and assembly of different components etc. Our aim was that we should make such a machine, whose production capacity is more & machine gets operated on 1 H.P. electric. The fresher and small farmer or business man can start business by investing less capital.

Abstract: In today’s automotive industry CAE is very useful for predicting fatigue failures during design phase. But due to many constrains of CAE model and manufacturing process correlation in some cases may vary. From business point of view it is always desirable to have 100% correlation so that in later stage of the project while doing physical validation design change is minimum. As we know CAE cannot replace experiments hence we should always try to achieve better correlation. In this paper we will discuss about the CAE pre-process, solution, material properties, manufacturing formability, part quality, assembly process and environmental factors for better correlation as these factors are very critical from correlation point of view. By managing these critical factors within desired tolerance we can maximize correlation.

Abstract: This project describes design and experimental analysis of composite leaf spring made of glass fiber reinforced polymer. The objective is to compare the load carrying capacity, stiffness and weight savings of composite leaf spring with that of steel leaf spring. The design constraints are stresses and deflections. The dimensions of an existing conventional steel leaf spring of a light commercial vehicle are taken. Same dimensions of conventional leaf spring are used to fabricate a composite multi leaf spring using- Glass/Epoxy unidirectional laminates. Static analysis of 2-D model of conventional leaf spring is also performed using ANSYS 10 and compared with experimental results. Finite element analysis with full load on 3-D model of composite multi leaf spring is done using ANSYS 10 and the analytical results are compared with experimental results. Compared to steel spring, the composite leaf spring is found to have 67.35% lesser stress, 64.95% higher stiffness and 126.98% higher natural frequency than that of existing steel leaf spring. A weight reduction of 76.4% is achieved by using optimized composite leaf spring. The Automobile Industry has shown increase interest for replacement of steel leaf spring with that of composite leaf spring, since the composite material has high strength to weight ratio, good corrosion resistance and tailor-able properties. The paper describes static analysis of steel leaf spring and laminated composite Multi leaf spring. The objective is to compare the load carrying capacity, stiffness and weight savings of composite leaf spring with that of steel leaf spring. The dimensions of an existing conventional steel leaf spring of a Light design calculations. Static Analysis of 3-D model of conventional leaf spring is performed using ANSYS 11.0 and hypermesh. Same dimensions are used in composite multi leaf spring using carbon/Epoxy and Graphite/Epoxy unidirectional laminates. The load carrying capacity, and weight of composite leaf spring are compared with that of steel leaf spring.

Abstract: The Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) having no pilots have proven their values in many areas. In this  research we  have made  an attempt  design and  analyze  an  indigenous   UAV  with  good  stability  knowing  the  mass of the entire  system. stability  analysis  of  the  UAV  has  been  carried  out  at  different  conditions  and  the  values  are   noted. The paper  will also  discuss  the step  by  step  procedure  of  design  and  analysis  of  the  complete  UAV. The  design  of the vehicle has been done  in  catia V5 and  the  stability analysis  has  been  carried  out  in  XFLR  software. The  software  structure  of  the  UAV  has  been  designed  in  such  a manner  to give  good  lift even at very low speed. this  UAV  has got  the special  ability  to operate even  at  low  Reynolds number. The results  of  this  analysis  could  be  utilized   to  further  improve the aerodynamics of  the  existing  design and  enhance  the stability and  performance  characteristics  of the  UAV.

Abstract: The aim of a parameter design experiment is to identify and design the settings of the process parameters that optimize the chosen quality characteristic and are least sensitive to noise (uncontrollable) factors. Cost of Quality is evaluated in terms of dimensional tolerances. Robust design is implemented in a gear hobbing process. The optimum setting of parameter is to be obtained in presence of uncontrollable noise factors. The target value for Root Diameter of a spur gear used in shaft in an automobile is 28.00 mm. The dimensional tolerance for of a spur gear 27.90-28.10 mm. It was found that these were arbitrarily accepted as the tolerance limit and any component within this tolerance limit would be accepted as good quality. This concept is a traditional design concept where every part within a range is accepted as of good quality. Taguchi parameter design tries to find an optimum value so that component meets the desired specification or in other words meets the target value. Experimental analysis is performed at different levels of control factors and noise factors. Optimum value of control factors is found by studying Signal to Noise ratio (nominal the best). Again the tolerance ranges for Root Diameter were calculated and it was effectively found that the tolerance range was found as 29. 95-28.05 mm. The tolerance was reduced from 0.2 mm to 0.1 mm which led to overall reduction in cost of quality of a spur gear.

Abstract: Global economic development is highly dependent on fossil fuel supplies which are constrained not only by limited availability but also generate high levels of pollution. First generation ethanol comes from sugar crops such as sweet sorghum, sugarcane and corn. Conventional plant breeding methods are very useful to create substrate for second generation lignocellulosic bioenergy system. Improved brown midrib sorghum feedstock contains less lignin in their stems than the other sorghum types which results in increase in conversion efficiency. High biomass sorghum trait in bmr background can be achieved through introgression method. In present investigation brown midrib parent and their derivatives were compared for fresh and dry biomass yield. Brown midrib sorghum, is regarded as the most promising feedstock source for second generation ethanol production because of several advantages, high biomass yield, rapid growth, wide adaptability etc.

Abstract: The Small Engineering Industries are the most hazardous industries due to their unique nature, and their industrials safety records in Tanzania are very poor. This study aimed to examine the status of occupational health and safety management of the small scale engineering industries in Tanzania but with special attention to Mbeya city. To examine causes of frequent occurrence of accidents, identify types of hazards faced by workers and finally explore on how safety rules and policies are being implemented in the industrial level. A total of 104 Small Engineering Industries were studied. Qualitative and Quantitative approaches were used as research methodologies that included interviews to employees and distribution of questionnaires.  The findings revealed that the behavior of small engineering industries on occupational health and safety management are of grave concern, including the lack of provision of personal protective equipment and safety training. The main factors affecting occupational health and safety performance included poor safety awareness. The study proposed that the OSHA should play a vital role in legal enforcement and organizing safety training program.

Abstract: The work aims to study the distortion occurred due to heat treatment on the Gear teeth. The paper studies, various causes of  distortion, control techniques to eliminate distortion, which includes changes in design, selection of material, heat treatment process, mainly due to quenching that includes cooling rates, quenching mediums, fixtures. An experimental study and results conducted for the effects of the distortion on the Gear teeth and to reduce the distortion with certain changes design modification, resulting in shape & size changes, phase changes, changes in hardness, microstructure, and residual stresses.

It is observed that adequate velocity of quench oil around the component to be heat treated ensures uniform & desired cooling rate as per heat treatment cycle. Modification in design of baffles achieved the adequate velocity and minimization of distortion. Also, Fixtures for holding finished parts or assemblies during heat treatment may be either support or restraint type to control dimensional relations during aging.

Abstract: SUPRA SAEINDIA is an annual national level competition organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers India. From all over India, the selected Under Graduate & Post Graduate Engineering Student teams are asked to design, model, fabricate and compete with a small open-wheel, open cockpit type race car. The purpose for this thesis project is to design and manufacture the SUPRA SAEINDIA race car Front and Rear Upright Assemblies. The purpose of an upright assembly is to provide a physical mounting and links from the suspension arms to the hub and wheel assembly, as well as carrying brake components. It is a load-bearing member of the suspension system and is constantly moving with the motion of the wheel. For the use on a high performance vehicle, the design objective for the upright is to provide a stiff, compliance-free design and installation, as well as achieving lower weight to maximize the performance to weight ratio of the vehicle. This is the goal for the optimization process. In this thesis a virtual prototype of Upright assembly is created by using SOLIDWORKS CAD tool.

Abstract: Wind energy provides an attractive power source as an alternative to fossil fuels because it is abundant, clean, and produces no harmful emissions. To extract more energy from the wind we need to increase the wind turbine size. However, the increase in size has begun to reach a limit in terms of material composition and structural stability. To quell the trend of increasing size in wind power systems alternative wind turbine blade designs are investigated and evaluated to increase power production and efficiency of present size machines. Wind concentrators have been proposed for the turbulence flow and low velocity region because they provide structural and aerodynamic advantages.

In this study, several selected concentrator designs were analyzed. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) program was used to model air flow patterns through a prototype wind concentrator and optimize its performance. Through this method, it was determined that a concentrator with a disk shaped entrance and exit is effective at concentrating wind energy.

Maximum velocities were obtained with the addition of pressure-relief slits in the inlet v portion. With an ambient inlet air stream of 8 m/s, CFD results predicted the concentrator would accelerate the air velocity to 18.56 m/s. The concentrator also predicted similar accelerations at higher inlet velocity. Our numerical simulations show that the circular disk shaped wind concentrator can increase velocity approx twice the inlet.

Abstract: High Velocity Oxy-Fuel (HVOF) spraying of Inconel-718 powders on mild steel sheets is carried out. Three-point bending tests are carried out to examine the mechanical properties of the coating. Stress fields developed during the tests are simulated using Finite Element Method (FEM). ANSYS package is used to predict the stress field. Three- and two-dimensional modeling of the coating and substrate material are considered and the predictions of load–displacement characteristics are compared with the experimental results. Since two-dimensional predictions agree well with the experimental data, two-dimensional model is employed in the simulations. Consequently, crack initiation and propagation at coating and substrate material interface occurring may be determined, similarly above steps were carried out for different thickness and for different loading conditions of coating materials.
