Abstract: Medicinal plants have long contributed to traditional healing and pharmaceutical discovery, yet their relationship with pharmaceutical science, commercial interests, regulation, and contemporary healthcare remains contested. Drawing on Revelation 22:2 “the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations”—this study examines medicinal plants without presupposing an exclusively physical, medicinal, spiritual, symbolic, or eschatological interpretation of the text. An integrative literature review and conceptual analysis synthesized 62 sources spanning biblical scholarship, traditional and Indigenous medicine, ethnopharmacology, natural-product drug discovery, pharmaceutical studies, public health, regulation, and integrative healthcare. Findings indicate that traditional medicinal knowledge and pharmaceutical science are neither inherently incompatible nor interchangeable. Traditional knowledge can contribute to therapeutic discovery, while scientific evaluation, standardization, quality assurance, safety assessment, and appropriate clinical evidence remain essential for responsible healthcare application. The findings further demonstrate that pharmaceutical influence, commercialization, intellectual property, regulatory authority, and institutional power shape the recognition, development, ownership, and accessibility of medicinal-plant therapies, raising concerns regarding community rights, biodiversity, and equitable benefit sharing. Overall, the study supports an evidence-informed approach to integrative healthcare that moves beyond the herbal–pharmaceutical dichotomy by bringing traditional knowledge, scientific validation, pharmaceutical innovation, patient safety, cultural respect, ethical governance, and equitable participation into constructive relationship.
