Development and Initial Validation of the Conscious Intelligence Curriculum Framework Scale (CICFS): Measuring Curriculum Transformation for AI-Mediated Higher Education

Dr. David Augustine Bull

Abstract: Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming higher education and creating a need for valid instruments to evaluate curriculum transformation beyond AI literacy and to foster conscious, ethical, and adaptive engagement with AI-mediated learning environments. However, empirical progress has been constrained by the absence of a validated instrument capable of measuring curriculum transformation from a conscious intelligence perspective. This study developed and psychometrically evaluated the Conscious Intelligence Curriculum Framework Scale (CICFS), an instrument grounded in the Conscious Intelligence Curriculum Framework (CICF). The scale operationalizes four interrelated dimensions of curriculum transformation: Curriculum Reorientation, Curriculum Integration, Curriculum Enactment, and Curriculum Adaptation. Using responses from a sample of higher education faculty and academic leaders, the instrument underwent item analysis, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and comprehensive reliability and validity testing. Exploratory factor analysis supported a four-factor solution with strong factor loadings and satisfactory communalities, while confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated good model fit and supported the hypothesized higher-order structure. Evidence of convergent and discriminant validity was established through Average Variance Extracted (AVE), Composite Reliability (CR), and inter-factor correlations. Internal consistency reliability was excellent across all dimensions, with Cronbach's alpha coefficients of .89 (Curriculum Reorientation), .91 (Curriculum Integration), .88 (Curriculum Enactment), .90 (Curriculum Adaptation), and .94 for the overall scale. Corresponding McDonald's omega coefficients were .90, .92, .89, .91, and .95, respectively, confirming the stability and reliability of the measurement model. Collectively, the findings indicate that the CICFS is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing curriculum transformation in AI-mediated higher education. The scale provides researchers, institutional leaders, and curriculum developers with an evidence-based tool for evaluating curriculum redesign initiatives that promote conscious human judgment, ethical AI integration, reflective learning, and adaptive educational practice.
