Abstract: This study focuses on the role of education in the enhancement of human development through leadership development, critical thinking, decision making and management skills. Secondary data and a structured review of the leadership and management literature was used to analyse selected education indicators and outcomes from the Human Development Index (HDI). Observations of relationships are identified through descriptive statistics, country comparisons and correlation analysis. Results of the findings show that there is a positive correlation between education-related investment and human development; and literature analysis found that analytical thinking, informed decision-making and management skills are important aspects of good leadership. The study suggests the development of leadership education that is practical and relates to capabilities that includes critical thinking, the ability to make decisions, management skills and human-development approaches.
