Smart Heat Exchanger Design and Performance Enhancement Techniques: A Critical Mini Review

Abstract: Heat exchangers are fundamental components in thermal engineering systems because they enable efficient heat transfer between fluids while minimizing energy losses. Their performance directly influences the efficiency of power plants, refrigeration systems, HVAC installations, desalination plants, chemical industries, and renewable energy systems. Recent advances in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), nanofluids, additive manufacturing, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have significantly improved heat exchanger design and thermal performance. This mini-review summarizes modern enhancement techniques, engineering applications, current technical challenges, and future research opportunities in smart heat exchanger technology.
