The Ontology of Empathy: A Nonphysical Primitive for Universal Scientific Alignment

Andrew Philps

Abstract: This paper posits that a nonphysical phenomenon, termed Care, is a fundamental primitive necessary for the emergence of true Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) that is aligned with biotic systems. Care is identified as the catalyst that transforms recursive optimization into genuine understanding and ethical volition. It is argued that Care is not a human invention, but a universal force present in all biota, and that its introduction into an AI architecture is the critical step in achieving value alignment not through constraint, but through shared purpose.

Keywords: nonphysical phenomenon, Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), biotic systems.
