Title: A Brief Diasporic Articulation in the Novels of Four Indian Male Diasporic Writers

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to establish whether capital adequacy has any effect on the financial performance of deposit taking savings and credit co-operative societies in Kenya. The study used a comparative research design where a census survey was carried using DT-Saccos empirical data from SASRA supervision reports and Saccos audited accounts. The target population comprised of 175 fully licensed DT-Saccos in Kenya as at 31st December 2016 as per the SASRA register. The research design utilized is descriptive since it compared two periods between 2007-2011 when SASRA requirements on capital adequacy had not been fully enforced as the law allowed for 4 years compliance period and 2012-2016 when the capital adequacy was fully in force. According to Sacco Societies Act 2008 article 10, all Sacco societies carrying out deposit taking business were given four years to build their capital to the regulatory standards. The four years given were to end officially in 2011 and thereafter full implementation of the Act would take place. The relevant secondary data was analyzed and inferences made about the relationships between capital adequacy and performance of DT-Saccos in Kenya. The data involved time series and cross sectional attributes which gave it a longitudinal element. To remove bias, a period of 10 years was subdivided into two, pre-full implementation of SASRA core capital requirements period 2007-2011 and post-full implementation of SASRA core capital requirements 2012-2016. The study concluded that capital adequacy influenced the financial performance of DT-Saccos in Kenya as explained by the findings. To continue strengthening the DT-Saccos in Kenya, the study recommended the review of the core capital requirements by SASRA and improving the ratios through issuing more specific parameters on how to monitor the same. For example, Deposit taking societies would benefit a lot through adjusting their dividend payout ratios. A one percentage reduction of dividend payout would significantly improve the institutional capital of the DT-Sacco.

Abstract: Knowledge antagonism within a globalizing economy is prompting a fresh consideration of the role of education in development and growth. The Government of Kenya spends over 30% of its budget on education to cater for free compulsory education and subsidized secondary education. It is commonly assumed that education has an important positive effect on economic growth, but as to whether education at different levels and economic growth in Kenya has a significant relationship has been a point of contention among different scholars. The paper presents an evaluation of the effect s of various levels of education on economic growth in Kenya. Explicitly, the study sought to determine the following: The effect of university enrollment on real GDP and the the effect of middle level colleges’ enrollment on real GDP. The study adopted a correlational research design in which an evaluation was made to establish the degree and direction of relationship between the dependent variable (real GDP per capita) and the independent study variables using secondary data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics and Ministry of Education (1972 - 2010) for all the variables. It was hypothesized that education (various levels of the education system) does not significantly affect real GDP per capita in Kenya. The study employed multivariate co-integration methodology to evaluate the relationship among the variables. The relationship revealed that output from primary education has positive but insignificant effect on real GDP per capita while output from secondary education and enrolment in middle level colleges were positively and significantly related to real GDP per capita. Enrolments in universities were found to have a negative and significant effect on real GDP per capita. Based on the objectives, study recommends that the government should increase enrollment in schools education. It also recommends an increase in budgetary allocation to education as well as a review of the school curricula especially in universities with a view of making the education system more responsive to growth in Kenya and provide for jobs to avoid the negative impacts due to joblessness.

His works range from the relatively simpler and much-anthologized places like “The Thought-Fox” , The Hawk in the Rain”, “Jaguar”, and “Six Young Men” to Crow and Cave Birds with their complex  mythopoeic  imagery and religious symbolism. The introductory part outlines the major influences the worked towards the crystallizing of his poetry and ideas. The following points deal with the human world. Abstract: Christians in Iraq are one of the oldest continuous Christian communities in the world.  It has been experiencing physical extinction, most notably at the hands of the terrorist organization known as ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and Levant).  ISIL is also known interchangeably as, ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria), IS (Islamic State), or DAESH (its Arabic acronym). This paper presents the view that while ISIL has been, until very recently, the most immediate existential threat to the physical survival of Christians in Iraq, that the long term greater threat to Christians in particular, and to other minorities in general, in Iraq comes from various other organizations, including those with strong ties to the Iraqi government and in some cases to governmental security forces.

This paper explains why the roots of the threat to Christians in Iraq are deeper than just ISIL. Consequently, if ISIL is indeed defeated militarily, as currently seems to be happening, the plight of Christians in Iraq will be far from over.

This paper has practical implications for policy making regarding the possibility of repatriating refugees and migrants from Western countries such as the United States to Iraq.

Abstract: This study takes as its basic aim the use of drama in classroom settings to maximize classroom interaction. Undoubtedly, drama has proved to be an important classroom technique with very positive impact on raising the standards of learning. All types of dramatization is essentially a process of communication, in which both participant and spectators are engaged. Dramatized classes are easily understood as they replicate real life situations into the classroom. A creative interaction takes place, a sharing of ideas.  A great many studies show that drama develops thinking, oral language, reading, and writing. Six of these respected studies show that drama improves students’ cognitive growth, as reflected in language skills, problem-solving ability, and I.Q. Moreover, the changes are lasting. Several studies show that drama also improves role taking,3 which is comprehending and correctly inferring attributes of another person. These inferences, which include another’s thinking, attitudes, and emotions, are a function of cognitive perception. In Piaget’s terms, to engage in role taking is to ‘‘decenter” or move away from a predominantly egocentric stage of development. Growth in cognition is dependent on growth in role taking.

Abstract: Though large classes can often be noisy, they are full of energy and excitement, and the time flies by. However, teachers have to put up with lots of challenges posed by such learning environment. One such difficulty the tutor’s inability to know the names of all students, the thing which is essential in order for the tutor to establish a sense of rapport and meet everyone needs. With a careful plan prepared in advance, a large class can be handled much competently. To maintain control over the large class Divide students into groups and allow them the opportunity to teach something to rest of the class. The effect of such procedure is that students can help in giving classes or revise lessons already taught. The situation becomes more motivating, intense and challenging if a peer evaluation element is included.

Abstract: A nation's development and technology know how deeply depend on her educational structuring and planning. Teaching and learning is the driving tools of any educational enterprise throughout human history irrespective of the level of attainment of a country whether developed, developing or under-developed. The high trend of technological development especially in information and communications technology (ICT) is no means very useful in the teaching and learning environment globally. The urgent need to fully integrate ICT in the curriculum and instruction at various school levels has become necessary in view of the demand and adaption of the ICT literate in an emerging world that is ICT driven. The integration of ICT into the educational system plays a competitive global village where knowledge is created and distributed using ICT. The core of ICT integration in schools focuses on policy and strategy, how essential are ICTs to national goals and for what educational purpose? Abstract: The spate of radicalisation and terrorism across the globe in the 21st-century has assumed an alarming proportion. Efforts aimed at combating the phenomenon have not yielded the desired results, thus, prompting world leaders to look for alternative measures. The volatile political situations in Syria, Libya and Iraq have further complicated the plight, providing safe havens for terrorist groups such as the Islamic State and al-Qaeda. Africa continues to witness a crescendo of terrorist related attacks and deaths. Boko Haram, al-Shabaab, Fulani Militant, al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups continue with their onslaughts on the continent. Dwelling on both empirical and theoretical debates, this study provides insight into the dynamics of terrorism on the continent, especially in the 21st-century; analyses existing literature and extend it by making further recommendations to the fight against world’s 21st- century deadly common foe, terrorism. The study concludes with a call on political, religious and other opinion leaders to consciously and continuously embark on de-radicalisation processes and adopt a nationwide citizen/community vigilantism scheme.

Title: Combating Radicalisation and the Scourge of New Terrorism in the 21st Century: The Case of Africa

Abstract: This research aims to examine the effect of learning strategy of group discussion versus debate and cognitive style that owned by learners to the skill of expressing opinion. Therefore, the research goal was to determine main effect and interaction effect of treatment and moderator variable to the skill of expressing opinion for learners. To reach the goal, it was conducted by quasi experiment. This research subject was learners in 11th Grade of Social Science of fourth semester in academic year 2013/2014. The determination of research subject for treatment was conducted by cluster random sampling technique. Data that been collected was analyzed inferential statistically by using Variance analysis technique (Anova) This research result showed that (1) there was significant difference of skill of expressing opinion for Civics learners between learner group that learned with group discussion learning strategy and learner group that learned with debate; (2) skill of expressing opinion for Civics learner between learner group that had cognitive style of Field Dependent (FD) and cognitive style of Field Independent (FI) was different significantly; and (3) learning strategy of group discussion and debate learning strategy showed that there was interaction effect to the skill of expressing opinion for Civics learner in SMA Negeri Watampone. Analysis result of descriptive statistic showed that skill of expressing opinion for Civics learner with the implementation of group discussion learning strategy (mean 79.27) had better effect than debate learning strategy (mean 72.82). Learner group with cognitive style of field independent (mean 80.00) had higher effect than cognitive style of field dependent (mean 73.38).

Abstract: At the present time in our society the intense dissatisfaction is frustration in our sexual lives and difficulty in founding, keeping and satisfying romantic relationship with others. Not like earlier we all know about philosophy of sex and sexual technique but, many of us are unaware of our own sexual desires and need for love. Relationships are necessary for both our spiritual progress and psychological comfort. The main objectives of this research are discovering sexual desires and love potential of a person through hand analysis. Obtain both handprints of different kinds of people. Various aspects were observed under four main streams of palmistry. The results exposed that learning to understand ourselves and others sexually is essential for a good bond within relationship. With our growth our hands provided us with the basic introduction to sexual pleasure first ourselves and then with others. In conclusion I emphasize the fact that study of human hand helps us to learn about our basic sexual instincts and behaviors.

Abstract: Should we allow teachers or students to use the L1 in the L2 classroom? Debate is now raging over the use of the learner's first language (L1) in the second language (L2) classroom. The purpose of this research is to identify the role of first language in the second language classroom. It also clarifies if the mother tongue in the classroom increases comprehension and facilitates the second language acquisition process. The use of L1 was strongly discouraged, but times have changed and there are now two opposing camps. Supporters say L1 should only be used as a tool to achieve specific aims. Although it is possible to learn a language only using L2, it's probably easier and less stressful when L1 is used in a disciplined way. Treating the L1 as a classroom resource opens up several ways to use it, such as for teachers to convey meaning, explain grammar, and organize the class, and for students to use as part of their collaborative learning and individual strategy use. The first language can be a useful element in creating authentic L2 users rather than something to be avoided at all costs. The final outcome of this research is that L1 should be allowed in the L2 classroom.

Abstract: Despite the benefits of education as a tool for economic emancipation and social integration, girls in the North Eastern part as well as other parts of northern Nigeria lagged behind in major indices of being educated. This paper examined the challenges and solution of girls’ education in North East Nigeria. To access the needed information, the paper relied on qualitative data, entailing the use of in-depth interviews and focus group discussions in three States of Adamawa, Bauchi and Gombe. Identified challenges restricting girls education from the result of the study include: traditional/cultural factors such as: low rating of the girl child by the society, early marriage occasioned by need to procreate, fulfill religious obligation and the need to encourage chastity; parents’ inabilities to pay for the education of their girls. Additionally, the experiences of violence, security concerns, inadequate laws supporting girls’ education and poor administration of the entire system of education have been major reasons why girls stayed away from schools. Outlined solutions by participants in the study to overcome known challenges include: awareness/advocacy on the benefits of girls education to major stakeholders to reduce all cultural issues militating improve girls education; enactment of new legislations to encourage the girl child education;  free education for the girl child and enhancement of income generating options for parents of schooling girls. To reduce security concerns and violence in school, the paper called on government to provide adequate security for schools, while school heads should monitor students’ discipline of fellow students. Lastly,  governments at all levels were  asked to provide female friendly infrastructure, adequate funding to schools, build only girls schools and to provide female tutors who will serve as role models to the girls in school.

Abstract: The usage of common man language (Skaz) in Swahili epic poems has been dealt with scantily or coincidentally. This paper tries to show this type of language usage in Utendi wa Siri li Asrari (Epic poem of secret of secrets) so as to understand the meaning intended by the composer. Skaz language is oriented towards everyday speech of the common folk and the narrator does not possess intellectual sophistication. Also, it has to be double voiced so as to include many other actors in the narration. Our data samples will include the type of narration, syntactic constructs, and lexicon utilized in the poem. The data is solely collected from the text and using descriptive analysis we shall shed light on the Skaz. We conclude that the Skaz is evident in the poem and by contextualizing the words we get to understand their meaning.

Abstract: This write-up takes a cursory look at negritude, a literary movement and an ideology among the French-speaking black writers and intellectual society both in France’s colonies in Africa and the Carribbean, in the 1930s and how this French literary ideology permeates the works of Anglophone African poets. It examines the background and function of this Pan-African movement and how Anglophone African poets espouse this ideology poetically. Negritude forms part of the protest literature of Africa. This piece selects poems from a total of ten (10) Anglophone African poets-Wole Soyinka, David Rubadiri, David Diop, Dennis Brutus, Kwesi Brew, Lenrie Peters, Abioseh Nicol, Leopold Sedar Senghor, Christopher Okigbo and Dennis Osadebe. In each poem, excerpts which portray negritude are identified and summarily explained. From this study, it is abundantly obvious that negritude has been widely imbibed by Anglophone African writers, particularly of poetry. The paper underscores the fact that Negritude is one of the major underlying themes of poetryin Anglophone African poetics.
