Abstract: The study attempts to handle how to develop students writing skill at the Sudanese tertiary level. It gives insight into the possible ways, directions and what can generally develop the writing skill in the tertiary level by acquainting students with some sentence and writing skills. This enlightenment includes an answer to why students in the Sudanese tertiary level are weak in writing and how the writing skill is handled in secondary and tertiary levels contributes to this weakness.

The previously mentioned ways and directions aim to draw attention to how a gradual progress in the writing skill can occur. First, they aim to inculcate in students how to produce grammatical structures correctly and to use words and phrases in written sentences meaningfully. Second, these directions aim to familiarize students with the use of these structures for communicative purposes.

Writing is not an abstract system which is used for making grammatically correct sentences. It is a way for expressing ideas that denote the communicative purposes of the language. So, if students are able not only to produce sound structures in writing but also to use them to express what they need communicatively, one can say that they have skills in communicative writing and consequently they have communicative competence in the language.

Abstract: This paper considers the significance of dedicated and selfless performance of employees, associated with the dynamic healthcare industry (especially hospitals, nursing homes and diagnostic centers) and consequent periodic evaluation of their KRAs by the Management and peers within the system. Emphasis is first placed on the essence for performance appraisal in a hospital, and its linkage to business strategy. Secondly, the globally accepted methodologies for mapping employee performance are introduced. These protocols invite employee engagement; aligns their goals and output with their assigned responsibilities within a hospital. Besides, focus has been asserted on the performance execution aspect by managers / supervisors, for effective patient service and quality care, which should be the mission of a multispecialty tertiary care healthcare establishment.

Abstract: Aldehyde dehydrogenase is a polymorphic enzyme responsible for the oxidation of aldehydes to carboxylic acids, which leave the liver and are metabolized by the body’s muscle and heart. This study aimed at investigating the number of sulfhydryl groups present in aldehyde dehydrogenase. Urea Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (Urea-PAGE) approach was used to count the integral number of sulfydryl groups present in Bakers‘ yeast aldehyde dehydrogenase. Aldehyde dehydrogenase solution was sequentially denatured, reduced and alkylated using urea, dithiothreitol (DTT), iodoacetamide and iodoacetic acid solutions. This was subsequently analysed on 8.0 M Urea-PAGE at 100 v for 4 hours and stained by fast Coomassie method. A single band on the 8.0 M Urea-PAGE indicates that the enzyme, aldehyde dehydrogenase, contains one disulfide bond. This disulfide bond present in the enzyme might contribute to the stability of the enzyme.

Abstract: The immune system is involved in the etiology as well as pathophysiological mechanisms of many diseases. Modulation of the immune responses to alleviate the diseases has been of interest for many years. Thus a real need exists to protect our immune systems and lead healthier lives. Hence the present study is aimed to evaluate the immunomodulatory activity of methanolic extract of Dalbergia latifolia. The effect of methanolic extract of Dalbergia latifolia on the immune system of mice was evaluated by using different experimental models such as carbon clearance test, mice lethality test. Methanolic of Dalbergia latifolia extract was administered orally at dose of 100mg/kg and dose of 200 mg/kg. Methanolic extract of Dalbergia latifolia in both doses increased the levels of serum immunoglobulin and prevented the mortality induced by bovine Pasteur Ella multocida in mice. On the other hand, it showed significant increase in the phagocytic index in carbon clearance assay.Hence, it was concluded that methanolic extract of Dalbergia latifolia increases both humoral immunity and cell mediated immunity.

Abstract: A review on the research work progress achieved and a realistic research plan for the remainder of the programme is outlined in this report. A brief literature of underwater LIBS and LIBS in general illustrates a recap on the first year transfer report along with added background knowledge of the subject. The progress summary emphasises on the results from experiments conducted, courses attended, presentations, journal/conference papers in preparation related to the research work. The research plan for the remainder of the programme will primarily focus on underwater experiments to meet the latter part of the research objectives. Preliminary results obtained will contribute to writing a technical research paper for publication.
