Abstract: Human security with its complexity in the modern world has become a major concern to many scholars and politicians. Several scholarship advocate diverse means of approaching this phenomenon. In order to deal effectively with the situation, some scholars have advocated neo-liberal bio-politics and governmentality as providing a better panacea to this security nexus that confronts the world today. This article therefore explored the existing scholarship on the suitability of neoliberal governmentality and bio-politics to the human security nexus. It particularly focused on the variant arguments presented by the literature and assessed the viability, weaknesses and strengths of such arguments. Based on the analysis, the article concludes that neoliberal governmentality and bio-politics approach to the human (in)security nexus may not be entirely detrimental to human security globally, though, it has its own weaknesses and other implications. It further recommends an all-encompassing globalised mechanism (which includes both state and non-state actors) to help tackle the phenomenon. In particular, it posits that the complexity of the human security phenomenon makes it foggy to conceive just the self-esteem and economic intervention/empowerment of the individual (which is the focus of neoliberal bio-politics and governmentality) as better ameliorating options. Tackling the issue therefore requires coordinated efforts by governments, individuals, local and multinational institutions and society as a whole – it goes beyond self-esteem/freedom and economic wellbeing of a population.

Abstract: International Law and its institutions are aimed at ensuring there is world peace and security. International law has its intrinsic values and norms that favour interdependence and most nations see this as encroaching Western values that are a threat to the national values of states. The aim of this paper is to show how international law together with its underlying assumptions can be used to resolve conflict among states by ensuring compliance so as to promote peace and prosperity in the world. It argues that the formation and sustenance of a solid framework of international law can lead to world peace and security. International law can affect a state’s behavior because states want to uphold their reputation and avoid sanctions by complying to the rules and regulations of international law. After the failure of the League of Nations in preventing another war, there was a strong desire to put in place a formal structure that would regulate and solve disputes among nations. Thus, the International Court of Justice was birthed as the judicial arm of the United Nations. By comparing a compliance case study between the Bakassi Peninsula case and China vs Philippine case, this paper aims to explain the role of international law in conflict resolution.

Abstract: The purpose of the present thesis is to explore Hegemony and Search of Meaning in the Post-apocalyptic Fiction: The Case of Blindness by José Saramago.  The researcher through Gramsci’s concept of hegemony, and defining meaning making process try to lay down the foundation for thesis questions. Fiction and fictionality is significant as well. What happens after the apocalypse the new world order is found and un-named characters joggle to find meaning. Even if they are led by their ideologies and the hegemony over them, they try to find their way out of the given world and salvage themselves. The role ideology plays is significant as well.

Even if they are struck by an unknown white blindness, eventually however, they find their eyesight back and continue to live their lives, even if the Doctor’s wife states that they have always been blind, but seeing. Their commotion and actives in the clandestine and forsaken sanitarium is so significant by being in direct stream of the whole thesis that all concepts of hegemony, ideology, search for a meaning, and a post-apocalyptic fiction are fully investigated.

The conclusion would be the notion that Doctor’s wife mentioned. We may find salvation, but we are taken aback by our eternal blindness which we may never want to see the truth due to being stricken by hegemony of ideology, playing an important part in our background and the way we see the world as our frame of reference.

Abstract: This research work is an assessment of performance management in the banking industry in Nigeria using selected banks. The study was designed to find out the extent Nigerian banks have embraced performance management and to assess the leadership commitment towards the effectiveness of performance management. The population of the study was 283 Staff of   Ecobank, Diamond bank, and United Bank for Africa (UBA), Access bank, and First Bank Nigeria in Umuahia, Abia State. A sample size of 166 was determined through the Taro Yamane formula. Primary data were collected by means of questionnaire which was administered on the managers, supervisors, senior and junior staff of the banks. The data collected were analyzed and interpreted using inferential and descriptive tools. Hypotheses were tested with single sample t-test and simple linear regression. Study discloses that Nigerian banks have embraced performance management significantly and that effective performance management reduces employee turnover and improves service quality. Again, there is a significant, positive relationship between leadership commitment and performance management effectiveness and significant positive relationship between communicating strategy to the staff and performance management. The study therefore recommends that Nigerian banks should invest on their employees and managers so as to drive and consolidate the gains of performance management to remain competitively relevant in the industry.

Abstract: Many studies have been carried out in this field and different models have been proposed with a view to better understanding of this disease. State transition models were monitored by serial measurements of CD4 cells per unit volume (  of blood in an HIV patient as a tool for modeling HIV disease progression. WHO disease staging system for HIV infection was used to analyze data. The methods used in this dissertation are applied to HIV data sourced from one health facility. HIV progression is analyzed through the application of a four state Markov model with reversible transitions such that state 1: CD4 count ≥ 500, state 2: 350≤CD4 count <499, state 3: 200≤CD4 count <349, state 4: CD4 count < 200.

Abstract: This paper employs ethnographic data to illuminate how the religious imagination of Pentecostal Christianity has reconfigured the way the Kuki people in Assam imagine their life course. The paper begins with emic explorations about what Pentecostalism and various elements of Christian cosmology mean to the Kuki people. This follows with a detailed historical and ethnographic survey of the phenomenon of “Revival” in Songpijang Village, North Cachar Hills District (Assam, India). Revival is a collective emotional experience and ritual corroboree linked to the Protestant Christian idea of being “born again.” A close interrogation of its features reveals that it has altered Kuki perceptions of space of time—rewiring their categories of understanding, so to speak. Drawing on the work of Mikhail Bakhtin (1981), this paper refers to this altered time-space as the “Revival Chronotope” and proposes that its dominance in Kuki society may be considered as a new form of “living heritage” that connects the Kuki people to a past, present, and future beyond their traditional culture and history.

Abstract: The research used a descriptive method, ie a mixed method which means a combination between qualitative and quantitative survey. This research began with a study of text by Yusoff Zaky Yacob who was a famous Islamic psychologist in East Coast Malaysia in 50s until late 90s associated with the psychological aspects of Islam to identify the main theme in the study of the Islamic psychological education concept. The next study undertaken in the form of a questionnaire to identify the most dominant constructs of Islamic psychological education as to study the significant effects between the conctruct of Islamic Psychological Education against the undergraduates of Islamic education in Malaysia public universities as to generate a model on it. In this text research, the researcher founds out that 12 constructs have much influence in shaping the individual’s personality of muslim in term of psyche and life which helped in making the questionaire’s question. A pilot study was carried out by using Statistical Software Package for Social Science 22 for Window (SPSS) against 28 respondents who produced Alpha Cronbach reading of 0.896. So in the actual survey on 165 respondents, the researcher used the WarpPLS 5.0 software which used SEM (Structural Equation Model) structure to get the results of relationship between several constructs. The finding from 12 independent variables on the personalities as the dependent variable results in 5 accepted variables (significant value = P <0.05) which are construct environment (PSK), attention and concentration (PRN), perception and response (PSI), learning (PBL) and memory (MP) thus become a construct model of Islamic psychological education against the personality of undergraduates of Islamic education in Malaysia public universities.

Abstract: This study examined the appropriateness of government in the junior secondary schools. The sample include hundred and fifty-one teachers selected from 50 public secondary schools in three major towns of Osun state, namely: Osogbo, Ilesha, Ile-Ife. Out of the 151 teachers, only 75 were teaching both social study and government, while the remaining 76 were teaching one of the two subjects and they were not used in the analysis to avoid invalid view or opinion.

Researchers recognised seventeen (17) government concept or theme in the social studies curriculum. These were used to design on whether the questions were adequate as background for offering government. A purposive sample of all teachers of social studies and government in Osogbo, Ilesha and Ile-Ife was used. The questionnaire was meant for government and social studies teachers at SSS and JSS respectively. T-test was used for analysis of the data collected; and t value arrived at was used for interpretation of the result for proper interpretation.

Findings of the research revealed that there was significant difference among the view of all respondents on the adequacy of the government concept contained in JSS social studies curriculum as a background for offering government at SSS level.

The following recommendations were made; first that Nigerian Education Research and Development Council (NERDC) should re structure each of the component disciplines including government that consist of elements that must be mastered for better understanding for succeeding subjects at Senior Secondary School. Secondary, social studies curriculum concepts should cover all subjects that have to do with aims and aspiration of the discipline. It also recommended that a modified form of multidisciplinary integration approach should be used in organizing social studies curriculum for Junior Secondary School.

Abstract: Perpetual acute electricity crisis in Zambia is not a new phenomenon; it is a decade long cycle of load-shedding and blackouts that continue to undermine economic development. While Zambia’s hydropower infrastructure has aged, inefficient and unreliable, the variables of climate change appear to pose even greater challenges. Hydropower production capacity is declining as prolonged periods of drought intensify and increasingly posing new challenges to the efficiency of hydroelectric. Therefore, it is imperative for the Zambian government to develop a climate resilience and adaptation energy security policy. One that could enable utilisation of alternative renewable energy options resilient to climate change, and promote the implementation of distributed generation to expand the investment base to include small-scale investors.

Abstract: Adolescence is a critical time to formulate one's career aspirations and expectations. It is a time when one's personal horizons are being developed and explored. This study was carried out to assess the impact of family environment on job preference of adolescent girls. This study had been conducted in two districts i.e. Hisar and Bhiwani on a sample of 200 adolescent girls and their parents (200 mothers & 200 fathers). The data of the study was collected through personal interviews of respondents. The study revealed that Majority of respondents (girls, mothers & fathers) had functional family environment in both the districts in which the family members are physically and emotionally safe. Parents perceived the secure relationship environment with their children. The study also concluded that respondents’ family environment was significant with preference for job opportunities.

Abstract: The re-emergence and growth of Chinese influence and enterprise across Africa has in recent times drawn much global attention, especially with the introduction of China’s One Belt, One Road (OBOR) initiative. This has led to sharp criticisms among actors in the world economy regarding the economic and political repercussions likely to be the direct upshots of the project as well as the true intentions of Beijing. Even though, Beijing has dispelled any such concerns, stressing that the project will be a “win-win” approach, many countries in Asia and the West are worried about the geopolitical impact and foreign policy implications of this gargantuan project. Some scholars have suggested the possibility of a dependency approach model to the OBOR project in Africa. This suspicion has spawned prolific articles positing eminent repercussions to not only the African populace and Western interests in Africa but also the globe at large. This article, examined China’s OBOR project and its possible impact on the African continent. It also investigated the claim that dependency approach is the possible driving force of OBOR. The study concludes that contrary to this assertion, Sino-Africa relations has no strong historical link with the dependency theory and that it is unlikely to see its reflection in OBOR, however, a “loose” state-centric realist approach is highly probable. Consequently, African states need to be active partners paying particular attention to safeguarding and promoting their national interests.

Abstract: The ghost worker syndrome has been a menace across all tiers of the Zimbabwean government and has led to the government spending billions of dollars resulting from money being siphoned through payments to non-existing employees. Consequently, the geometric annual increase in the wage bill gobbling about 97% of the fiscus has become worrisome, hence the Zimbabwean labour net has become saturated and the nation's economy being put in absolute jeopardy and quandary. This paper therefore examines the effects of the ghost workers' syndrome and how the instrumentality of integrated personnel payroll and information system (IPPIS) could address the menace in the public service. The researcher will elicit data from both primary and secondary sources. The data was analysed using the simple percentages, frequency tables, mean score and spearman rank order correlation technique. The paper concludes that ghost workers syndrome is highly imminent in the public service, thus recommends that the IPPIS should be adopted in the public service to ensure a virile economy through enhanced productivity.

Abstract: The dominant issue and the purpose of this study surround the prevention of Dutch Disease in the Ghanaian economy through transparency, restoration of fiscal sustainability, and responsibility with the oil revenue. Therefore, in this paper, we were interested in finding out whether Ghana government has put in place the desired policies recommended by World Bank that would increase transparency in how the oil revenue would be allocated; and restore fiscal sustainability and responsibility. This was the path recommended by World Bank for Ghana to follow and avoid Dutch Disease. Our findings indicated that Ghana thoroughly complied with the World Bank recommendations. Further, Ghana enacted the appropriate legislations and put in place institutional infrastructure to effectively manage its oil revenues. However, we can conclude from our findings that Ghana' s problem is not the lack of policies to prevent Dutch Disease, but fiscal sustainability and fiscal management discipline dating back to the 1960s.Owing to lack of fiscal sustainability and fiscal management discipline, Ghana ,since 1960s,has been forced to seek debt restructuring or fiscal sustainability and Management help from IMF/World Bank (including programs in 1967, 1972,1983, 1999, 2001, and 2009, 2012 and 2015).

Abstract: Vocabulary knowledge is widely regarded as the building block of language learning. In order to reach the fluency level of language, ones need to acquire the large amount of words. This paper aims to examine the roles of textbook, teacher, and informal activities in vocabulary acquisition as they are the three most common methods of lexicon input. The Analyze is based on the researches and studies of the related topics. The result of the investigation suggests that formal classroom teaching is still the most effective source of input for the vocabulary learning. The quality of teacher and textbook or other forms of classroom material combined is the most important source of vocabulary. However, the informal activities outside the classroom can play important role in word knowledge development as well as the supplementary resources in the learners’ acquisition of lexicons. Nevertheless, the rate of vocabulary acquisition may vary in each individuals depend on their or her own motivation.
